Feeling God call me into full-time missionary service at this time in my life was certainly unexpected. The only one who was not surprised was my Pastor. As one of my friends said, “I didn’t have that on my BINGO card for 2026!”
When they asked me for references, I knew I had to share the news with my family. It was difficult, as I wasn’t sure how my mother would react. In typical Mom fashion, she then began pointing out people from the Bible whom God called in what we might consider their “retirement years.” Abraham was called at 75. Sarah gave birth to a son at 90. Moses was 80 when God spoke to him. Caleb was 85 when he entered and began taking possession of the promised land. Noah was about 600 years old when the flood came. Anna was approximately 84 and faithfully serving in the temple. Her point was clear: God calls people at any age.
As I shared what God had been placing on my heart, I could see that even though it was surprising, she was truly listening. It wasn’t an easy conversation, but it was an important one. In that moment, I was reminded that this calling isn’t just about me-it’s about trusting God with every relationship and every step forward.
What I do know is that everything that has happened up to this point in my life has been intentionally designed by God to equip me for whatever lies ahead. Every experience, every season, every challenge has had a purpose-and I trust that none of it has been wasted. While there are still many unknowns ahead, I feel a deep sense of peace and purpose. I know that if God is calling me to this, He will also provide, guide and prepare the way.
