Today was cold, windy, and overcast. I was out walking and listening to music, thinking about a few things I needed to pick up at the store. Suddenly, the words of the song interrupted my thoughts : “What a beautiful day for the Lord to come again.” As I looked up at the dreary skin, I thought “No, sunshine would be better!”
But, The song brought to mind a dear lady I used to attend church with. Her name was Granny Crawford, and she was a sweet, faithful child of God who always had a testimony to share. Inevitably, somewhere in her testimony, she would say that she had her bags packed and was ready to go to heaven. Whether Christ returned for his children, or simply called her name, she was ready.
When I was much younger, I thought that if it was her time to go, then so be it. But, I hoped the Rapture would happen in the distant future because I had so much I wanted to accomplish.
Now that I am older, and as I look at the world around me, I understand Granny Crawford a little better.
Recently, I came across this quote: “When you realize that the world is preparing for a war, but heaven is preparing for a wedding, your perspective on life changes.” How true that is! I still believe God has a purpose and a plan for my life, and I want to faithfully serve Him for as long as He allows me to remain here. But, as the world around me seems to be spinning out of control, I find myself longing for the day when I will finally be home.
Like Granny Crawford, I can say that my bags are packed. Whether the Lord calls me home or returns for His children, I am ready.
And now, unlike when I was younger, I find myself hoping that day will come in the near future!
What a beautiful day That will be!
